The total population of Kangra, as per the census 2011 was 1,507,223. Of the total males totaled 748559 and females numbered 758664. The total population in 2011 grew by 12.56% over the year 2001. Kangra also reported an average literacy rate of 86.49% in comparison with the national average of only 59.5%. In 2001 the average literacy rate was 80.08%.
The male literacy rate stood at a whopping 92.55%. While the female literacy rate stood only at 80.62%.
The population counted below the age of 6 years grew from 10.67% in the year 2001 to 12.29% in the year 2011.
The sex ratio was reported as an impressive 1013 females per 1000 males.
